Singapore Hindi Writers Festival 2026 – Poetry in Music

At the Singapore Hindi Writers Festival 2026, K. Srinivas Patnaik will present original musical interpretations of selected poems from Singapore Navras, the first Hindi poetry collection published by Global Hindi Foundation.
The featured works are by poets Vandana Singh and Alok Misra. Each poem has been approached as a distinct creative work, with its own rhythm, meaning and emotional character.
Setting another writer’s words to music calls for sensitivity. The melody must first listen to the poem. These compositions have therefore been shaped around the emotions already present in the writing, allowing the words to find another form of expression without losing their individual voice.
This appearance brings together two enduring parts of Srinivas’s creative journey—writing and music. His contribution is not intended simply to turn poetry into song, but to explore how melody can reveal the pauses, movement and emotional weight already carried by the written word.
The segment forms part of the Singapore Writers’ Showcase at the Singapore Hindi Writers Festival, an evening dedicated to Hindi literature, poetry, conversation and cultural expression. The wider festival brings together authors, poets, translators, educators, playwrights and other literary voices from Singapore and the region.
For Srinivas, the performance represents a thoughtful confluence of शब्द और सुर—words and melody—and another opportunity to explore the space where reflection, writing and music meet.
